The UC Davis Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability team in the Office of Resource Management and Planning participates in the planning and design of UC Davis development projects, reviews the environmental impacts of these projects, develops mitigation measures for potential impacts, and oversees an on-going mitigation monitoring program. The team also participates in community and regional resource issues as they relate to the campus, and it maintains a campus geographic information system (GIS).

The primary goals of environmental planning for the UC Davis campus are:

  1. Develop resource management plans that promote long-term sustainability of the campus' natural resources,
  2. Promote the design and construction of environmentally appropriate campus projects, and
  3. Manage the environmental review process required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for proposed development on campus.

CEQA is the basis for environmental law and policy in California, and it requires multidisciplinary review of environmental impacts and decision making based on this review. The environmental reviews of currently proposed projects on campus are tiered from the UC Davis 2003 Long Range Development Plan Environmental Impact Report (2003 LRDP EIR), which analyzes environmental impacts associated with campus growth anticipated through 2015-16.
