This page provides summaries, timelines, and links to published environmental documents for current UC Davis projects.  Current projects are either currently under environmental review, approved and in final design, or are currently under construction.  Project summaries, review and approval timelines, and links to published environmental documents are presented below. J-1 Renovation and Upgrade


The UC Davis Building J-1 Renovation and Upgrade would renovate and expand an existing 23,000 square foot building that was designed for infectious organism containment research. The proposed project would renovate approximately 1,550 square feet within the north wing of Building J-1 to provide improved animal holding, laboratory containment rooms, and upgraded air handling capabilities.

Jackson Laboratory


The proposed project could develop a facility with up to approximately 96,000 gross square feet on a five acre site in the west campus, located south of Hutchison Drive and west of Hopkins Road. The proposed building would include laboratory, laboratory support, and administrative areas. It would be a state-of-the-art facility that would be used by the Jackson Laboratory to prepare, breed, and house genetically standardized mice for research on the UC Davis campus and other west coast research institutions. The project as previously proposed and approved is currently being revised. The campus will evaluate the revised project in 2003-04.

King Hall Renovation and Expansion


The proposed project would integrate the construction and operation of a 22 percent addition to the existing Martin Luther King Jr. Law School building with renovation of key portions of the existing building. The project would add approximately 29,795 gross square feet, renovate approximately 20,870 gross square feet, and upgrade certain building systems in the existing facility. The project would include a new trial practice room and additional meeting space, and would require upgrade of campus chilled water and steam utility lines.

Low-Effect Habitat Conservation Plan for UC Davis 2002-2003 Campus Projects


The Low-Effect Habitat Conservation Plan covers the following five projects that could potentially affect the valley elderberry longhorn beetle, a species listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act: the Genome Launch Facility, the Cole Stormwater Improvements, the Center for Companion Animal Health, the NEES Centrifuge Support Building, and the Phase 2B Electrical Improvement Project.

Mathematical Sciences Building


The campus proposes to construct and operate a four-story, approximately 65,000 gross square foot (37,704 assignable square foot) Mathematical Sciences Building. The new building would be located in the core campus, south of the Crocker Nuclear Laboratory, west of California Avenue, north of the Academic Surge building, and east of Engineering Unit 3. The Hog Barn building (a structure that meets the criteria for listing on the California Register of Historic Places) is currently located on the proposed project site. To accommodate the proposed project, the campus will relocate the historic Hog Barn building to a site in the central campus located southwest of the Silo complex.

Multi-Use Stadium Complex


The proposed development would include an outdoor stadium with seating for 15,000 to 18,000 spectators, two lighted practice fields, and a support building on a site located east of State Route 113. Environmental effects associated with this project were evaluated in the 2003 LRDP EIR.

Neighborhood Master Plan

The proposed development would be located west of State Route 113, north of Hutchison Drive, south of Russell Boulevard, and east of Olive Tree Drive, and it would accommodate tudent, faculty, and staff housing, recreation fields, a community education center, locally serving commercial services, and an elementary school facility. Environmental effects associated with this project were evaluated in the 2003 LRDP EIR.

Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) Centrifuge Support Building


UC Davis proposes to construct and operate a new 4,720 gross square foot building to support research activities at the NEES Centrifuge site. This site is located in the west campus near the hydraulics laboratory, west of Brooks Road.

Parking Lot 57


UC Davis proposes to develop approximately three and one-half acres within the Health Sciences District (HSD) for the Parking Lot 57 Project (the project), which would include the construction and operation of a new, approximately 270-space surface parking lot northwest of the intersection of West Health Sciences Drive and Garrod Drive. The proposed project would help implement Mitigation Measure 4.14-3(b) from the 2003 Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) Environmental Impact Report (EIR), which requires UC Davis to monitor parking demand and to provide additional parking if the winter parking utilization rate is expected to exceed 90 percent. The project would provide additional parking in the HSD to meet expected demand generated by several new buildings that have recently been constructed or are under construction and will open within the next two years. The need for additional parking also results from the loss of some existing parking to construct new facilities in the HSD.

The proposed Parking Lot 57 would be constructed with an asphalt concrete paving surface and would be landscaped to provide tree shading. Landscape plantings would be selected with an emphasis on drought-tolerant species to minimize irrigation, and lighting would be designed to avoid upward-directed or unshielded lighting in order to minimize light pollution. The project would include a concrete entry island with a parking permit dispensing machine to serve visitors without campus parking permits. Additionally, an emergency telephone would be provided.

Physical Sciences Expansion


UC Davis is proposing the Physical Sciences Expansion and Service Unit Park (the project) that includes the construction and operation of two new campus facilities. The proposed project would relocate existing operations and maintenance facilities from a location in the Central Campus to a new Service Unit Park in the West Campus. The new operations and maintenance facilities are needed to provide modernized space and increased area at a single consolidated location. The existing buildings at the Central Campus location would then be demolished to provide a site for the Physical Sciences Expansion project. The Physical Sciences Expansion project would be a new academic building that would house the Department of Geology and teaching laboratory space for the Departments of Chemistry and Physics.

The proposed Physical Sciences Expansion project includes the construction and operation of a new academic building that would provide approximately 52,000 assignable square feet (89,000 gross square feet). The Physical Sciences Expansion building would be located in an area north of the University Arboretum, east of California Avenue, south of the existing Physics/Geology building, and west of King Hall, the site of the UC Davis School of Law

Physics-Geology Building Fifth Floor Addition

The campus proposes to add approximately 4,721 gross square feet to the fifth floor of the existing Physics-Geology Building, which is located in the central campus, east of the Crocker Nuclear Laboratory, north of the Physical Plant, west of Parking Lot 3, and south of Roessler Hall. The addition would provide office, dry lab workroom, and computer lab space for the UC Davis Physics Department.
