About Real Estate Services

The Real Estate Services office augments the University's more traditional project development approaches of state-funded, campus-funded or gift-funded projects.

The University has planned $1 billion in development projects in the next decade. Real Estate Services plays an active and strategic role in enabling partnerships to fund those projects without campus dollars or financial risk to the University.

Enterprise funding is defined in the 1994 UC Davis Long Range Development Plan as "a University development partnership with another public organization or private entity." The Enterprise approach is now being used for research facilities, faculty/staff housing, student housing, office space, recreational opportunities, open space amenities, and cultural facilities.

The Real Estate Services office also manages a number of University properties, including Aggie Village and a broad range of sites in and around the Davis Campus designated as "enterprise opportunities." This enables the University to respond quickly to future needs and academic initiatives. Campus development in these areas is financed in cooperation with public or private organizations external to the University.

There are four project scenarios which serve as the focus of the Real Estate Services office:

• Projects where the land assets of the campus may be converted to income to support the academic mission.
• Faculty/Staff housing that would require the participation of private capital.
• Projects that benefit campus academic programs by hosting public or private research and outreach activities on campus land.
• Projects that require participation with the private sector for a quick response to campus academic or administrative needs.
