  • Created by restoring and remodeling two early 20th-century houses
  • Purchased by UC Davis in 1987

Third and A is a mixed-use building located at 207 Third Street in Davis. It is an 11,000-square-foot, tree-shrouded, three-story facility, with two floors for commercial use and three apartments on the top floor.

Current tenants include a number of UC Davis administrative and academic offices, the UC Davis Visiting Scholar Apartments, and two restaurants.

Third and A was restored and remodeled in 1984 by the Berteaux Architectural Collaborative. The project included moving and restoring a 1912 Craftsman Style 2-story shingled house--the Asbill House--and remodeling a second, 1910-vintage house. It was purchased by UC Davis in 1987.

The ASUCD honored the facility with an "Orchid Award" in 1990, commenting that "the building was historically appropriate" and "great pains were obviously taken to make the building fit into the neighborhood."
